If my budget was 30k I'd save until I had a 35-40k budget. You can get so much more for your money in that range it's not even funny. A fully optioned econobox is near $30k. 40k gets you into something fun.

Also have to take into account fun car insurance vs econobox insurance (if that's a problem for op)

If you are over 25 and have a decent MVR it shouldn't be that big of a difference. The rates are based more on the likelihood of it being stolen than performance.

Since i was the originator of this thread, i have decided to buy the current car I was leasing. Financially it was best to buy a 2013 honda accord with 37,000 miles for 15K usd outright, i have paid about 8k the past 3 years. In 2-3 years i will trade in my accord for a newer sportier whip.
