It's your problem if you want to back up your friends and not actually respond to what I'm actually saying.

I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing m'kay.

Being assertive and not letting people walk over you gets you places if that's what you're asking. What does not understanding what people are saying and not respecting other opinions get people?

I don't care if some people don't like me on the Internet. I'm not changing the personality that gets me what I want.

No.

But if you get what you want out of life, that's a bonus. No one can say with a straight face that getting what you want isn't important.

I think it's flat out silly someone can think it's OK to think not respect someone's opinion than try to impose some moral judgement about how they person lives your life.

I'm not even quoting that mess. You are picking out pieces of my posts that you choose to argue with and ignoring other parts. You clearly did not understand what I was saying about some aftermarkets being the original supplier for instance.

I'm happy you get $86/hr labor at the dealership owned by your buddy. Really. Good for you.

The fact that I do all of my own work does matter. I didn't type out every word as I figured you were smart enough to infer the rest. Since I do all of my own work I know what is required to do a certain task. I know how long it is going to take, and roughly what the parts that are required should cost. If I don't know the parts cost I can easily look it up because I know what I am looking for. The average person (or woman as you stereotyped) that can't change a tire doesn't know any of that. When a dealer quotes them an absurd price they don't know it is absurd. I do. If they were to quote me a reasonable price I would call it reasonable. I'm not out for blood against car dealerships. I know enough to know when my chain is getting yanked, just like most people in this subforum. There is a reason why people capable of doing their own work talk the shit that they do about dealership pricing as you have seen here.

Dealerships do have the most complete training on brand new cars. Those same cars are under warranty. An independent mechanic should not see any of those vehicles for major repairs until the warranty period starts to run out. As I said before, under warranty the dealership is where you should be. Preferably the one you bought the car from. The great thing about the OBDII standard is the generic scan tools show you all of the same faults and error codes as the manufacturer's own tool. The manufacturers tool can re-flash ECMs, PCMs, TCMs, and other modules. They also have advanced diagnostic protocols. Those protocols make a lot of the diagnosis point and click which speeds up the process. It is also a crutch, and if there is an underlying problem the tool can't see, the person using it has to have good enough instincts to figure it out or the problem won't be fixed. The independent guy that works on a bunch of brands is usually a better diagnostician than my generation of dealership techs. If the scan tool tells them it is fine they pass it back to the customer. Some of the newer universal tools have the OEM start up test protocols that perform a readiness check on all electrical sensors as well as emissions readiness.

You can easily buy a manufacturer specific scan tool if you want. They are readily available online. You have to procure your own software updates but that isn't a problem for anyone in the industry. The guy that mounts/balances my tires has a GM Tech II and a Chrysler Starscan. He may have more, I'm unsure.

I don't think you know why you are arguing at this point which means this will be my last post with any real content in it. I have explained myself fully and you should understand my opinion. If you keep posting the same rage essay over and over saying you feel insulted and I am not honoring your opinion I'm done. We agree on some things and disagree on others. You are completely refusing to see my point of view which makes you guilty of everything you are accusing me of. I think I said that on the last page.

BRB, taking my computer to the dealership to get the rad fans replaced. I'll be posting from my phone for a while. Scythe can suck a fat one.

No, I don't agree with it. If I didn't respect it, I would have said more than it was just silly.
