6.0's have never been friendly on gas.

FMX - How to the new 6.2Ls (or whatever they are) do in the half tons?

It's not so much the 6.0 as it is the 3/4 ton trucks they come in. Heavier truck, more reciprocating mass, 4wd, more aggressive gearing, higher drivetrain loss, etc. In identically equipped 1/2 ton trucks a 6.0 will get about 2 mpg less than a 5.3. The new gen V 6.2 is very strong. Mileage takes a good hit but fuck it makes 420hp. Some guys are well into the 13's with RCSB 2wd 6.2L trucks sporting basic bolt on mods.

This my 6.0 gasser 3/4 ton gets about 12 mpg unless I'm using 4wd then it gets about 8-9 mpg. If you get a pussy truck it might get 17-18 mpg, but then why buy a truck if its a glorified car? a 2wd 1500 or f150 truck is fucking worthless to do anything with other than commute. I actually bought a 5.0 mustang to drive daily because it gets that much better gas mileage..I bring my equipment trailer to my jobsite and drop it first day and then drive the stang or ride my motorcycle in the summer months. In the winter I just pay out the ass for gas, but I make a ton back pulling shit cars and little trucks out of the ditch.

The towing capacity on my 5.3L crew cab standard bed 4wd 2014 1/2 ton is 9,100lbs. Honestly if you are pulling over 10k you should be using a gooseneck or 5th wheel and anyone doing that should get a 3/4 ton or 1 ton. 1/2 ton trucks are the perfect compromise for most people. Huge pull behind campers and heavy equipment hauling aside, they will do anything you want/need. The new ones are significantly better at everything than the gmt800 which is now 10 to 18 years old. Case in point my 5.3 makes significantly more power than your 6.0 and I still get 18+mpg unloaded with 4wd. Progress is good man.

i have an 08 1500 2wd with camper shell, its a 5.3 and i have never gotten 18+ not even on the highway

could i do it if i was 100% trying for fuel mileage? maybe not sure

maybe the newer trucks are better.

They are. Better aero more mid range better gearing better trans tuning etc. 6 speed and 3.42 gears helps.

This was back and forth to work yesterday with 10 miles of city traffic at lunch. I still wasn't really trying for mileage and my tires are a bit under-inflated.

Edit: I have hand calc'd my mileage 3 or 4 times on this truck and the DIC is almost dead on. My old Cummins read 25% high... silly dodge you aren't fooling anyone.

Knowing you I think it's safe to say you don't drive for mileage either. You probably drive it like it owe's you lunch money. Which is the way it should be.

I have only ever once checked the mpg, and that was when i drove it down to san diego. i got 13mpg on the way down lol problem is once you get on highway 5 when the speed limit it 70, ever one does 90

and it was loaded from top to bottom in the bed/camper shell with shit including coolers packed, a keg, corn hole shit, golf clubs ect

and there was 4 not on the small side dudes in the cab including all the shit we had packed in there.

i keep thinking i should get a suv of my own lol but i dont need to add to the collection. maybe ill buy the wife a new one and steal the old one
