Why so slow then?
I wouldn't consider them "slow" by any means. There is a reason why they are extremely popular vehicles for Auto-X courses and can be seen consistently dominating other cars with significant power advantages. Like I said earlier, I have driven a lot of cars in my time and this vehicle is just as fast, if not faster, than any of them I've driven.
To give you an idea, I converse with someone on the Lotus forums who has an aftermarket supercharged Exige and he is putting down similar hp to my car and quite a bit less torque (since he is supercharged and not turbo'ed). Out of curiosity, he took it to a local drag strip and ran a quarter in 11.8x at 118.6x, and this was on street tires. In addition, his 0-60 was timed at 3.54 seconds. Of course there are faster cars out there but by no means would I dub this as being "slow".
Either way, being critiqued on how fast my car is by someone who drives a Tiburon is so ironic that it makes me chuckle.

I guess I just don't get it. Why buy an expensive car that doesn't function properly?
They really aren't that expensive. And it functions fine. I would prefer visors falling off their velcrow straps over my engine blowing up any day. In addition, you have to keep in mind that many Lotus' are used almost exclusively as track cars. If you put around town in a Lotus like you would in your mom's Camry then it would last forever and half. It is a Toyota drivetrain, afterall.
