To be fair they live in maine, I don't think hes going to have alot of competition.

It does explain the cockiness. He said he has $5800 invested in it. That is pretty good for $/mph. At the end of the day it's still a civic though.

No tracks in Maine, nice try though.

No, no it's not.  It's still not a good idea to take a car that traps 120 to the track with a plate that says V8 LOL.  Maybe people in Maine are pussies... Down here he would be getting called out to race at least 2-3 times before each pass just sitting in the staging lanes.

Read my edit.  You are a horrible troll.

The car is driven to the track too btw. And he did get called out, to a ricey looking 5L notchback mustang. Mustang ran low 12's, looked like a retard. Had al the Mexicans jumping up and down in joy.

That's where the location comes in to play. A heads/cam LS1 car running low 11's would be average or below average as far as cars at the track. Grudge racing is huge down here. He would get tired of people fucking with him. And they would be too. There are so many 8,9, and 10 second street cars around here it's stupid.

So it may not be a terrible idea where he lives. That speaks volumes for your car scene.

There's no 8 second street cars around here, but theres a couple 9's and multiple 10's.

How much would it cost to purchase a reliable LS1 vehicle, then do those upgrades?

Yes. On a car that can run more than 10 passes without breaking.

There are several ways to go about it to be honest. The most straight forward is staying N/A. Most of the effort will be $ spent. You could go the budget turbo route, and most of the effort would be time spent.

N/A, starting from scratch:

F-body roller, preferably a Formula or Z-28 with cloth interior, $2000

Get rid of the 250lbs of unnecessary weight that is in the cars without removing the interior, Free

Stock LS1, $1500

Budget heads, $1200 (this includes valve springs, fully assembled)

Big cam, something like an MS4 or Trex V2, $350

Supporting mods for heads and cam (oil pump, lifters, pushrods, timing chain) $350

Assuming LS6 intake already from an 01/02 car

Air lid, $50

Tune, Free-$500 depending on who does it

Junkyard 8.8 Ford rear end, $600

Shorten stock driveshaft, $50

Headers, $350

True duals with an X-pipe, $200

LCA relocation brackets and LCA's, $250

Rear shocks, $225

That's ~$7400

Now, you can go 6 speed or automatic. Auto would be faster, cheaper, and more consistent

Figure $2000 for a 4L60E and converter.

<$9500.

To be honest it would run high 10's if you knew what you were doing and the car would be a bit over built for later mods. For instance, you could easily throw a 150 shot on it and it would last for EVER running bottom 10's. The trans would be the only thing that would need to be looked at occasionally.

This is how I would do it if I knew ALL I wanted was low 11's:

Pick up a running automatic LS1 stripper Z or Formula $4000-$5000

Once again, get rid of the excess weight

Same suspension mods and exhaust, (~$1800)

Valve springs and pushrods ($225)

Brand X nitrous kit, single stage, nozzle, wet shot ($500)

Sell the 4L60E and buy a mildly built TH-400 with a transbrake ($500 after selling the 60E)

Jet it for a 150 shot. Stock heads and cam. Leave off the transbrake and let it eat. At that power level the trans and rear will last FOREVER. A 150 shot is nothing. I work with a guy that has an LS1 swapped S10 running a fucking carb and 220 shot. He's made about 50 passes so far in the 9.40-9.60 range.

That's right at $7k. It could be done cheaper. To be honest you can pick up a car with most of these mods already done for $5-6k. It won't be low mileage or super clean but that's not what you asked.

Then whats your point?

If a Honda can spend $5800 and run 11.4's on its first day since boosted, and you're saying LS1's run that with ease, but you have to spend 7k-9.5k.

Your whole argument since day 1 was always money spent/outcome.

/e
Oh, and the only LS1 for sale in Maine has 100k on it and is for sale for $5500, so..

Who was arguing that? If you get beat you get beat. I told you a low 11 LS1 car is average around here. I didn't say anything about the cost. Quit trying to make an argument out of this. The last time I was at the track, no one said a word to the winner about having more money in his car in order to win... Poor people are the only ones that care about that sort of thing. People that like to win spend the money to win.

To play your game though, all said and done the F-body would be WORTH more money so....Subtract the difference in book value then try again. Really, this is stupid. I just said it was a bad idea to have a license plate run your mouth for you when 75% of the cars at the track are faster than you. Either you are just a douche, you pussy out when called out, or you like losing.

Then I found out Maine has no car scene so it's w/e. There is no one present to get the joke except other honda enthusiasts. Refer back to "You are just a douche."
