for real they wanted somthing like 1200 bucks to do my breaks on my C6 i paid about 500 for rotors and pads all the way around and was done in about 20min

WP and lower rad hose on our Cruze was billed at $980. It was a warranty job but they did it while my wife was at lunch. The wp was listed at $315 and the very same AC Delco wp is $120 on rock auto (who is still making a profit.)

Is this a common thing on this forum, ignore arguments, call people wrong for having reasonable arguments? I think the only person who was ripped off was you. Someone clearly didn't give you a very good education. I'd ask for your money back.

Read my posts. My arguments are nothing about saying dealership prices are always reasonable. They're not. My argument is there is valid and strong reasons for taking your car to a dealership. In fact I said in response to the OP that it's absurd to pay $500 for what he needed on an '00 Civic. But there's other things a dealership will do that an independent cannot match. I already went through what. I won't repeat myself.

Dealerships serve their purpose.. they're great for regular maintenance and to keep records to save your ass if you ever have to make a warrenty claim, but that's where it stops..

I worked at a Honda dealership for awhile, and ive seen a woman in a pilot refused help with her trashed transmission because she was 5k over her warranty, and she had never brought it to us.. On the other hand, we had a loyal customer who drove a 96 civic who's motor seized, and American Honda paid for half just due to the fact that his service records were so clean..

Does it pay for itself? Probably not.. is it convenient? If math isn't your strong suit, absolutely.

Tl;dr

Stealerships are overpriced, but you scratch their back, they scratch yours.
