Theres no replacement for displacement if you want power. Seeing as the guys comment was regarding power than id say the v8 > 4cyl argument is valid.

No replacement for displacement? A semi's engine is bigger than anything you could dream of putting into your car, yet it's not quick at all.
My 4 banger would eat probably 90% of this forum's v8's.

There is math that supports the "no replacement for displacement" saying.

Power to weight ratio isnt everything either. a 1000 HP, 20 lb go kart wont make it anywhere fast.
There are lots of factors that affect performance obviously but power is proportional to displacement. Always has been, always will be. Gasoline contains a specific amount of energy, more gas in means more potential for energy out.
