I am picking up a b18b for my 97 civic coupe tomorrow. Gonna finish the b swap into it. Then turbo it. The motor is supposedly frehly rebuilt so will be perfect candidate motor for what I am doing for my daily beater.

I dont know much about honda motors but arent most b18's like 10:1 compression?

If so how much boost do you think is gonna be safe on pump gas if any?

A stock B18B can handle like 6-8psi and still be pretty reliable.

So.... 210-220bhp?

Just buy a different car.

According to Wiki it has a 9.2:1 compression ratio for the USDM version. The JDM version is 9.4:1. Those are VERY boost friendly SCR numbers. The stock parts just aren't built for it. I don't see why the Honda guys insist on dropping the SCR even further when they put a set of forged pistons in it. I guess it's all of the internet mechanics telling them that lower compression is better for boost.

I've ridden in an 8.5:1 347ci LS1 that followed that guideline and it was a complete dog out of boost. 9.0-9.5:1 is the sweet spot for pump gas.

a stock ls1 is 10.25:1 correct?

what heads are you using to bring down the compression on your WS6??

It depends on the heads. With #241's you are closer to 10.1:1. 243's are 10.5:1.

I don't really have to use a larger chambered head to drop compression since I have 15cc dish pistons. A stockish 64cc chamber would put me right at 9.5:1. I still haven't come to a decision on the heads. I was going to go with the Trick Flow 220cc "As Cast" heads but now I'm waffling. The main thing is just to have an aftermarket casting for the thicker deck. The thicker the head deck the less likely it will distort and push water at higher boost. All of the aftermarket castings are between .550"-.750". Trick flow's require aftermarket roller rockers which add valvetrain weight and require a stiffer spring to compensate. I'm looking at a set of WCCH ported All Pro heads that I can use stock rockers with. They are a lot more coin than the Trick Flows though.

You never cease to amaze me..

Why are you puttin a number on a car without knowing what size turbo/the tune?

You cant put a set number on a turbo vehicle without knowing what turbo its getting, and how its getting tuned..

The HP gains all depend on these 2 things plus a couple others.
