So, I am a bit confused about what exactly 'white privilege' is. I was always under the assumption that white privilege referred to the 2% of the world that runs the country.
My confusion arose today from a prior co-worker.. I was recently promoted to a great position in my hospital, and I felt that I got there from my interpersonal skills and tenacity. I had 2 letters of recommendation 'from white people' for the position, and was given the position over 100 applicants, which I'm sure many of them were white.
My co-worker said, and I quote
So my question is, are all white people susceptible to this white privilege witch hunt? My views are being skewed.. If not, someone please elaborate.
Don't you love how other races will blame anything and everything but themselves for their short comings?
One of my buddies jokes about my 'white privilege' all the time because of all the nice things I have. But at least he owns up to the fact that I have all these nice things because I worked hard to be where I am. Other people look at it like I was handed these things solely because of the color of my skin... Which I think is hilarious because minorities have the upper hand in so many other sectors of life such as education and scholarships (how many 'white privilege' scholarships do they hand out compared to other races), and even the workforce (hiring certain races solely to hit 'Equal Opportunity' numbers even if there is a more qualified white person). My roommate was a white male who graduated top of his class as an engineer and couldn't get an internship to save his life. Yet all the Indian kids he tutored got offered internships with Intel and Google, etc.
But yet you won't ever catch white people blaming their issues on everyone else. Bunch of dindu nuffins who don't ever put the blame on themselves.
