Im in McDonough (Henry county) currently.

Nah, pretty much only looking at trucks.

Arent all Hilux's V6s? Anyone know much about the difficulty of swapping in a sbc into one?

Most are 4cyl 22Re or 22Rfe. They are better than the V6. Sbc swap is easy but the trans transfer case and diffs are glass with over 200lb ft of torque.

As much as I hated my ranger every time I looked at it I thought about a 4bt swap. It would get better mileage with 3x the torque.

How much do you guys think it would cost to do a proper swap? And with the 4cyl or V6 still in it is lifting it and putting it on ~35" out of the question?

Im still kinda just browsing and getting some ideas, but once I get settled in from moving im going to start researching a bit more in depth.

It is very realistic to lift it anyway. Most of them are lifted. They are at a premium now just like the older chevy trucks for the same reason.

My bigger concern was the large tire diameter. I dont know how they are geared stock but I imagine I would want all new gears, and then if I added a V8 i would probably need a different set then too?

If you do a v8 swap you will want a completely different rear end, trans, and tcase. They are slow stock. 33" tires or bigger will make it slower. If you get a manual its not a big deal. You will just gear down for hills. My cousin drove a 91 reg cab 5spd with the 22r-e and 35" ATs for 10 years. It had a thrush muffler and 1 set of spark plugs put on it in a decade. It was a turd but a reliable one. They make ~110hp and 140lb ft of torque I think. Its hard to find one in decent shape that someone doesn't want an arm and leg for.

I saw a tracker that was lifted a little and on some "big" tires (more so big for a tracker than actually that big) and it looked pretty fun.
but no... truck >
for my needs at least
