I installed the pinion assembly using one .019 shim which is the same size that was previously used. Thought I'd start with that and see if I got lucky, and BOOM first try the gear pattern was perfect! I was stoked.

The backlash came in at .007. The range is .003-.012 with .05-.08 being optimal, so I nailed backlash too.

Overall a productive weekend, and things finally started to work right and fall into place. I'm very happy with how the gears came out. And I couldn’t have done any of it without the awesome 14 bolt instructions by BillaVista on Pirate4x4.com

Another day, more shit going wrong! I relocated my parking brake mount, its about 6-8" back from stock. Turns out that the long bed F-series dont extend the dual cables that run to the drums, they extend the single cable on the frame that comes from the pedal assembly. So I attempted to do the same. Anyway, I had this all set up and it looked like it was going to work, but then...

The cable broke! I bought some steel cable from OSH and that shit just ripped apart! Back to the drawing board.

I wanted to take the axle shafts out to make the gears easier so I needed a rear drive shaft. Mine was too long and the JY shaft I got was too short, so I welded this POS together just to be able to move it. Good news is the rear axle is 100% together and hasnt fallen apart yet.

I got some of the 8 lug stuff together on the front. I was making good progress until I went to mount the calipers and realized that the banjo bolts dont fit, the 1/2 ton 44 banjo bolt was actually TOO BIG, go figure. After striking out at all the local auto stores I called it quits for the day. So here's how it sits right now, in all its jacked up glory.
