an inline will always be more reliable, which is why its used in dozers, semi tractors, farm tractors, etc.

any v-type engine design will always have less longevity than an inline. 300k is just broken in for an inline vs the last leg for a vtype motor.

My 7.3 has 377k on it and I would drive it across country right now

I said they all have negative points. I didn't say shit about inline vs V. Last i checked i own a 5.9 Cummins and you don't. Trust me, it has it's cons. Most of them are Dodge's fault but not all.

ive put about 30k miles on my dads 2002 5.9 24v 6 speed. The only issue we ever had in the 160k miles we've put on it was when we loaded the gooseneck flatbed with a bit to much equipment (~38k lbs) and bent the yolk on the rear end. Other then that, still going strong, stock clutch yet even with pulling 20-30k on the flatbed on a daily basis spring through fall. We put a smoke stack on it and nerf bars and aftermarket rims.. so yeah other then the yolk shitting out, not a single issue ever and we run it like a truck is suppose to be, loaded heavy. If you dont load the bitch down then you shouldnt have a truck.

160k on a vp pump? Borrowed time much...

The ISB, duramax, and powerstroke have fuel systems designed by the same company. They share many of the same issues. Dodge put a 15 micron fuel filter setup with poor water separation on theirs when bosch recommends 5 micron... then they wonder why the injectors go somewhere between 70k and 150k miles.

If you are loading that truck down like that with a stock clutch you aren't getting out of your own way much less merging in traffic. If you lived anywhere other than the midwest i'd love to see you pull some hills with it. I've had 15k behind mine with 80hp more and 105lb ft more so i know what it's like.

the pump was replaced in the first 4k miles under warranty. That was 12 years ago and so early in the life of the vehicle i forgot about it admittedly.

as for pulling on hills, i live in the kettle morains (glacier carved area of wisconsin), and my parents live 3 miles north in the northern kettles. Nothing but hills around here, especially the huge hill they live on top/ of can see about 4 miles from their deck.

As for merging in traffic, its not an issue because the closest on ramp to a highway is over 30 miles away lol. Hell the 4 closest cities within 15 miles, all together have a population under 10k people.

And in the event we have to go further then that, my dads got a BD diesel programmer in the truck (which i dont really consider a modification because you are just altering whats already there in terms of boost, fuel, etc) . Just kick it on extreme and give it hell. Doesnt give much more power, but its more then needed.
