Yeah sounds like thr miata is more of the starter car while the sxs are the ones after.. depending if you want more of a challenge from going sideways comparison.
I will look into them. I know a ton about s13s and s14s
I may testdrive a few just to see acceleration and everything withour actually drifting ofc to see which feels more comfortable
Do you drift in it? I'm curious about what tou did to make it better ro drift.

nah i dont drift it, im a little to broke for that at this time.. working an 8.50 /h job :(
i get it sideways in the rain though.. mine has the torsen lsd so its not to hard to get it sideways..
its stock though the only thing ive done is coilovers.
i wont try to go drift it because i care about it a little to much.

You can get a miata for a couple grand and swap in an LS motor but the swap will cost you ~$10k probably.
Granted it will be hella fast, its not really a cheap option. That or course changes if you skip all of the kits and fab everything yourself. If you have the resources to do all of that than go with a miata. A LS is gonna put you at at least 300 HP pretty easily without screwing up your weight ratios at all.

but I wouldnt drift a LS Miata. Id track it all day though.

The major cost of an ls swap is the crossmember and trans unless you insist on an aluminum block. You can pick up a 305hp iron 5.3 for $300.

This
5.3
cam
tune
6 speed
340~hp in a 2800lb car would be tits

I almost bought this
Bottlefed 5.3 with a built 3l80(th400)
He was asking 4,500$ for it

I dont think I would LS swap a miata would be better off with a rx7 or 240sx or even a e34/e30 bmw

that's not cheap.
I mean the cheapest you can get honestly.
Not like crap that won't do it
but best for the price basically
6-10k for car put together
4-5k for parts separate
like 1k shell
1k tranny
2k engine and I put it together
maybe a bit more but mostly want to stay between 4-8k total
since I will need to modify other things

I was honestly thinking this before hand
I thought about getting a relatively cheaper motor that's a 4 to learn in before I throw perm in it
then throw in that
I could do the work myself
except bmw's I'm not too sure
I heard they can get weird and confuse people
rx7's I heard it always great to swap it out
and get a 5.0 though from a mustang since they are so common
I'm trying to find a decent shell with good weight distribution more than anything and then throw a good engine in it and tranny

The gm 5.3 is more common than a 5.0 by a long shot. They are in pretty much every silverado and tahoe made since 1999. Millions of them are floating around. The stock parts are also better quality. You can throw a hot cam and a set of rod bolts in it and spin it 7200rpm making 375bhp all day long. The ignition system is coil near plug as opposed to a distributor. There are 3 different tuning suites available to tune the stock pcm any way you want. And the block won't crack at 500hp like the 5.0 either. If you wanted big power later you can turbo the same engine with nothing else done to it and make more than enough power for any type of drifting.

That's honestly what I was thinking but I had heard from other people to go with the 5.0
Mustangs may be very common but every teenage kid wants it when it's honestly not the greatest car when it comes to price
They are like 8k or something for a mediocre one around here
and most are v6's
could be just where I live and where they lived
much more tahoe's and silverado's around here
tahoe's being the most
we actually have a TONNNNN of 4.3 vtec v6's as well from the blazer
we were the biggest makers I think in the country of blazers
turbo? hmm.. I heard supercharger would be better, less power but still less cons

5.3 is basically an iron block ls1 than can be had for 300$
5.0 is ancient and not a very good base for a performance engine today
15 years ago sure but today no

Stock engine turbo 5.3s have gone low 9s in the quarter mile
This is many times more power than you would need in a drift car

stock 5.3 with a cam headers tune
