Once cured, and out of the bag, I trimmed the edges.

Test fit #1

And here is the Datsun emblem just taped in place to see what it will look like. This is really rough, NOT a finished product.

Once I prep and fine tune the surface, I'm going to spray it with automotive clear. I'm going to redo the wheel as well. When I paint a black PT cruiser for someone here in Bristol, I'm going to spray my steering wheel as well.

Although it's only about 50% finished, I definitely like the new design a lot more. I'm excited to see what it's going to look like in the car. My seats have a 12k twill style weave on them. I think it's going to play out nicely. Er...I hope so at least.

I'm just glad to be making things for the 240 again.

Despite the 400 mile difference, I'm still trying to work on the car!

Can't wait til March, then I'll be home.

Nice work with that carbon. I dont see many people use vacuum infusion but its such a cool process.

Thanks!

Yeah, it's really cool. Infusions are hard because resin chemistry matters so much, and not to mention temperature, and vacuum integrity.

Infusions are my favorite. Super clean, no emissions, great consolidation of the part. Win win win. Just takes some meticulousness.

Uh oh........I hate to disappoint, but they are as close as I could get to RS Wats....but....... they are Rota RBs....I know. I know..... Shame me...haha

17x9 -13 offset in front.
17x9.5 -19 offset in the back

But I worked a little bit tonight.

I stripped my steering wheel of its components and removed all the paint. Originally in anticipation of priming, then eventually leading to a respray. Black, with clearcoat.

But, someone else in the shop commented, once the wheel was stripped, that I should sand/polish/clearcoat the exposed metal.

So I'm torn. I'm leading one particular way, but I kind of wanted to get some more opinions on the matter.

What say you?

Gloss black wheel? (resprayed with clear)

Or polished/gloss steel? (clearly not polished. Use imagination)

Any opinions?

You know, as a third option I actually am toying with the idea of wrapping the metal with the same carbon twill. I won't decide until I paint a guys car in a week or so, because that's when I will be spraying clear.

But I change my mind every five minutes, so who knows.

In regards to the rotas, it's all good, I've got a bunch of reps for drift spares :p
As long as you don't claim them to be real

Also, I vote polished + cleared for the wheel.

Yeah, agreed. Someone who REALLY knows real Wats would know my wheels are replicas immediately, so I'd be an idiot for playing them off as their 3000 dollar counterpart, that's for sure. haha. I believe the Wats have a more banana shape to the spoke than the RB.

I am going into the shop tonight to work tonight, and after much deliberation, I have decided to repaint the wheel black. While I believe it would look awesome polished and cleared, it would be the only shiny thing in the interior, it wouldn't look good with the white gauges.

Not to mention there are some imperfections in the alloy that cannot be removed without severely damaging the surface.

Probably sand -> prime tonight will update with pictures most likely. Nothing crazy.
