Miller 211

This.

Miller wire feed welders are my go to when talking about welders. I've had a few of them for different purposes and they will out run anything else all day long. The duty cycles on them are amazing. Not really needed for light fab and exhaust work but when you get into something heavier (and you will) it's nice to have the duty cycle to do it all in one shot.

Miller actually makes some pretty bad ass TIG units as well

I also own a grinder, but the way i shake i'm better off with a plasma torch

Everyone i've talked to seems to think miller and lincoln are pretty even once you get into the 200 amp + full size and it comes down to exactly which features you want.

In the smaller stuff the lincoln is built better. It has dual gear drive cable feed vs a single gear and static bearing. It's little differences. We have mostly millers here at work but the lincolns seem to do just as good. All of our TIG machines are miller.

i don't want to spend more than $800. If i ever upsize or buy a second welder i'll get a really nice TIG setup.

If I can find one lightly used I wouldn't turn it down. It's about $300 more than I want to spend looking at the cheapest price I can find new.

Missing that low mile LS6 long block last week was a kick in the balls and a blessing in disguise. I just put a deposit down on a 12k mile 383 LS1 stroker long block with AFR 225's on it. It made 487whp in a C5 Z and ran 10.66@129 with a best mph of 131. The cam is only a 232/234. With more cam and a thinner head gasket it should make 500whp+ with a Fast 92mm intake.

LS1 block
Eagle crank
Eagle H beam rods
Arias pistons (quite unusual for an LSX, 10cc valve relief which is big for my personal taste, will limit compression to about 11.25:1 max)
ARP main studs
ARP 2000 rod bolts
Small bore AFR 225's at 64cc (should be 10.9:1 with an .040 cometic gasket)
232/234 .610/.617 113 LSA
LS2 timing chain
Melling oil pump
Front and rear covers
ARP head bolts
Comp pushrods
LS6 rockers
Valley cover

The heads are worth $2k. The short block is worth $3k bare. The cam, timing setup, oil pump, covers, bolts, etc is worth almost $1k. I can sell the 153k mile LS1 and T56 that needs a synchro from my Trans Am for probably $3500-$4k as a combo. Then I can slide this in with the built 6 speed from my Formula. That's a 75whp and 140k mile upgrade for probably less than $1k investment. I'll be driving to Jacksonville FLA to pick it up friday.

This will make a perfect daily driver setup after I spec a new cam for it, swap out valve springs, and sell my LS6 intake for a FAST. I might sell my headers and buy some 1 7/8" to replace the 1 3/4". It's about time I found a good deal on parts that went through.

The guy is well known on CorvetteForum and LS1tech. He goes to several big corvette meetups on the east coast every year. I'm stoked. He's already had 2 people offer him over his asking price to get him to sell it out from under me. Everyone else needs it shipped. I'm 4.5 hours from Jacksonville so it's an easy pick up.

My CWP reciprocates with FLA and I'll be taking my lackey for backup. It's going to be a busy weekend. I get off work tomorrow night for my 7 day break. I'll drive down to Jville and get this Friday, go to the Supercross in Atlanta Saturday, Pull the trans from the Formula Sunday and start prepping the new engine for install over the course of the week. Depending on how fast I can get parts it could be ready to put in the car in a month.
