Id love to go .308 or 300 blackout or w/e but its just not realistic. I would stick with 5.56 for sure.

Gonna do some research and figure it out pretty soon

300 blackout won't cost anymore than 5.56mm. The only difference is the barrel. You would want to reload your own ammo though. .308 is pricey. You can't use most standard parts.

Regardless of how fast they are though you can't wind them out on the street. A manual car can still be fun then though because like you said you're occupied with shifting gears.

It was new, and shifting in traffic at 40mph loses its luster after a few years. I still prefer a manual, but it is not as fun after 10 years.
