That means that the car doesn't have enough power to pull in overdrive. Most 5 speed cars see their max speed in 5th though. 6 speed cars usually see it in 5th.

As an example, with stock gears my car will redline 5th at ~192. 6800rpm in 6th is something stupid like 260mph. 6th gear is a .50:1 ratio. It's there purely for fuel economy.


Most 5 speed cars have a 5th gear ratio around .75:1. They should be able to pull in 5th unless they are severely underpowered (honda).
