C7 z06 running like 1:34 at Laguna. But I wouldn't be buying the z06... performance might be comparable after I slap the Procharger on it, but still. I would never be driving in a track like that. Most action I get year round is 1/4 mile passes at Englishtown Raceway Park besides for the spirited driving on highway occasionally. C6 numbers are kind of meaningless in this comparison. The vette is a $54k base price with 460hp 6.2l V8 while the cayman S is a $64k 3.5l V6 with 325hp... also the "extras" on the Porsche are extremely expensive like the one I'd want to build would come out to like $85k after all the optionals. Porsche tax is just lame at this point. Hard to swallow that for a entry level Porsche.
I'm not talking about the new 4 banger Cayman (718). My comparisons were of a c6 z06, and the 987 Cayman S, which are the same generation of vehicle (roughly 2000-2010). A 987 Cayman S is around 25-30 grand, the same as a c6 z06. That's what warranted my previous comparison.
Don't get caught up on the "entry level" "poor mans.." stigma that anything without a 911 badge provokes...That's for brand whores, and people who are narrow minded. The 987 Cayman is going to appreciate like crazy, in the future, due to it being the last flat 6 naturally aspirated motor for the model.
But from the sounds of it, you want another AWD something, with gobs of power, since it sounds like you don't go through any twisties (which is where the Cayman absolutely shines).
I really don't think you need a "new" car to have fun. You're just, foolishly, paying for depreciation.
