Glad to know im not just crazy. I got a facebook message from the guy i dusted last weekend "Hey man i took the civic into the shop this weekend and had them retune the motor. The guy told me i should be pushing about 400hp to the REAR WHEELS now. You ready to put the challenger back up against me bitch?" I literally laughed so hard when i read it that i cried.

Anyone that says FI is a replacement for displacement is a fool.

Take a 2L 4 cylinder and run 30psi to it.

Then take a 500+cube and run 30psi to it.

Catch my drift?

Well no one here ever said FI was the replacement...

But Sure, sounds great when put like that. But let's not include rpm and Power band ranges, because clearly that has no impact right?

A sprint cup engine makes 900hp at 10,000 rpm. It costs $50-75k. A v10 F1 engine made just about the same power with half the displacement turning nearly 20000rpm. RPM is the only way to get more horsepower out of an engine since horsepower is not a force, it is a mathematical calculation. Torque is limited to about 1.5lb/ft per ci. What does that F1 engine cost? Who knows... the only reason that engine configuration exists is because the class rules limited displacment.

If everything was unlimited no one in their right mind would spec a sub 300ci engine for anything where power was the main goal. Hell, even drivability is better with a large engine.

So limit RPM to a number on both motors. The bigger cube motor is going to out perform under ANY given circumstance.

Air + Fuel = power. More cubes = more air. It's not my fault that gas inline motors have a dog shit powerband.

You can throw any twist in the world that you can think of but more cubic inches under the same circumstances will always relate to more power.

It's not an point you can argue. It's science.

still is a saying... To make up for the difference in displacement add FI. on a 4 cyl car it is usually a cheaper path and costs a lot less to do vs higher displacement engines. That is why you don't see many turbo/super charged (aftermarket) v8's on the street. It costs a lot of money to do. a fuck load more than turboing a b18 to 400+ whp. So yes in a sense they are similar. I spent almost $2000 for full exhaust on my c5.... For that same price I was able to turbo my stock b16 in my hatch and make 300whp in a 2000 pound car... both ran similar times dollar for dollar*in mods only*

My biggest problem is with people who lack the respect for other enthusiasts despite what kind of car they are in to. A lot of those import small motor guys could easily be doing bigger displacement engines but they don't want to, it is what they are in to.

Personally I think the feeling of a nice turbo light 4cyl car is totally different than one of a v8*I have owned plenty of both* they both have their fun aspects to them.

Let's also not forget that pretty much every scene has it's tools also... Not just the imports.

Why are we talking about these small blocks that boosted 6 inlines can easily compete with? Let alone the 3 to 4 liter supercar 10-12 cyl motors will put to shame.

That saying may have made sense back in the muscle car days, but technology definitely has caught up. Cubic inches only go so far now, that's why big blocks are only really made for towing or dodge based burnout machines that put up high hp numbers but get beat by vettes with smaller motors.

uhm

the aventador uses a 6.5L v12
the veyron uses a 16.4L W12
ferrari f12 uses a 6.3L v12

i wouldnt consider those small engines.

and the smaller ones 4-5L engines are usually v8s and twin turbo. they way they make up for the lower displacement is boosting the hell out of it.
