I've owned and worked on all 3 US truck brands. Here is my take:

Dodge's QC is shit and engineering is sub par. Their current stuff is getting better. They sell on volume and low pricing. Electrical, air conditioning systems, and transmissions are suspect.

Ford pushes the evolution of new technology. They are always adopting things first. They rarely seem to master something and would rather move on to the next big thing. Their engineering is great and QC is good. Most problems from a ford will come from some new system they have only been using for a year or two and made an educated guess on it's lifespan or long term function. They are inherently more complex vehicles to work on. Parts can be expensive and similar jobs take more time (labor cost) than a GM truck.

GM is neck and neck with Ford from an engineering and QC standpoint. Where they differ is how they apply their skills. When they adopt a system they run with it for a long time and slowly perfect it. The GEN V small block is a great example. It is a new design and only shares 2 small parts with the outgoing GEN IV engine but the concept of the moving parts is still the same. It is now a variable valve timing displacement on demand direct injection V8. It represents the pinnacle of evolution for the small block V8. You can still work on it with the same tools and changing the timing chain still takes the same amount of time as before. It makes as much power as the complex Ford Ecoboost and gets the same or better fuel economy while being simpler, costing less to produce, and repair.

Tl;dr

Ford/GM tie and it's personal preference from there. Don't buy a dodge.

Personally I have owned f150's and silverados. Worked them both the same and I have had much less trouble with the chevy's and thats what I'll drive until I die. I have owned over 100 vehicles since I started driving in 1986 and by and large chevy has been the best I have personally owned. different people have had different experiences, but that is mine.

I would agree that this is on point. Even coming from a GM guy like FMX.

When it comes to gas half tons, i'd even buy a gm truck over a dodge. But, then again I don't buy gas half tons anymore. All mine are eco-diesels and everything else is a 3/4ton+

My favorite daily driver half ton to this day was an 08 gmc sierra I had. 4speed auto with the 5.3L If it wasn't in the shop every other month I'd still own it. Sadly it was a lemon. I had issues three times that required a rebuild and an input shaft in the trans that detonated. All the issues stemed from the 4/8 cylinder deal. 2 times it spit shavings into the oiling system and wrecked everything. The last motor issue was on a main bearing. The fit and finish was very very good for a mass production truck and the ride was miles ahead of everything else at the time. I will say the air ride on the new dodge trucks are pretty fucking plush though.

Superdutys for me. Love the look and the 7.3's and bulletproof'd 6.0's.
I'll be getting another this spring, either a 6.4 or. 6.0 already modded depending on what I can find.

Debating a duramax still. Ones here I been eyeing are more $ and more km's vs Ford.

Yeah we'll see I guess. There's really not a huge selection of used diesels around here to pick from. Might have to go to Ontario to find a good rustless truck (damn Atlantic Canada)
