And I'm not sure if anyone covered this.

But I bought a grand am to flip. Had oil in coolant. This was the lower intake manifold gasket, not the heads. This was a v6, so might be totally different circumstances??? Maybe

I paid about 200 to get my head tested/cleaned/machined. Did the hg myself referencing a guide every now and then. I would suggest doing it yourself as it's really satisfying hearing it start after you're done haha, and you learn so much. Drove it for 2+ years after - 3k miles across the country and everything was well.

If you do it yourself buy ziplock bags and label everything

well im going to go in steps. first step is flush ALL the coolant, shop down the street did multiple flushes, and put some stopleak in it, so i'll monitor if and how fast oil seeps into the cooling system, and if any gets into the oil (probably daily)

so i'll keep everyone updated. thanks again for all the info everyone!

I do not exactly understand your statement about milling the head flange.

If thoses never heated, they should be still strait. What about op could use a strait edge and filler gage prior to spend 150$ ?

I understand that there is a leak on head gasket but
could be only normal wear (and not overtemp/overpress)

Imho he could clean it via a non-abrasive cleaner and check it.

He said he drives the shit out of it and packed it in mud. I can't think of a.faster way to overheat one. He isn't the original owner either so who knows what happened. Obviously the machine shop would check it and only mill if necessary..

Stop leak probably won't stop oil to coolant crossover.

so, 2 days and about 100+ miles so far, not even a hint of oil in the coolant, but the guy overfilled the crap out of my radiator so its been flowing into the reservior like crazy and slightly out of the radiator cap (which it didnt do before) should i just buy a new radiator cap and play it safe?

Honest opinion below, I'm not certified mechanic btw,

The shop that did the flush and filling are, in my honest opinion, not so good. When you do flush/fill your coolant system, you want to run it idle right after and monitor the radiator coolant filling, and bubble escaping. Than once it's still cold but no more bubbles in, close radiator cap, make sure that overtank is filled correctly.

Maybe, I say maybe, this pressure in the coolant system help the leak not bring oil in. Other side is if the pressure in coolant system is higher than the engine pressure, it could send coolant in the engine internals/oil via the leak (if still a leak), which is very not likely.

You could check coolant level and engine temp everytime you use it. if coolant remain 100% coolant with no oil in, and you dont see huge engine temp variation, check oil in next oil change to smell/see coolant (if coolant mixed, should be milk chocolate color instead of dark brown).

If possible, check spark plugs for white coloration on the electrode (coolant burning).
