I just don't think a 250 2 stroke should be an option for a 15 year old who rode bikes from 5-11 and has been on quads since, even if its good In the dunes or not.

first time jumping a 2 stroke i nearly died because i wasn't use to the powerband and it hit it right at the top of the ramp and i over rotated because i wasn't ready for it.

they are fun when you get use to it but the learning phase is more dangerous

Lmfao. I honestly went to the dunes last week with my buddy and I sent on his banshee and right when I hit the hill going to the top it hit the power band and I hit the longest wheelie. I scared the shit outta myself lol.

I feel like I won't be terrible though.

I drive a TRX700XX Chipped with a EHs fuel programmer and barker exhaust. It works well and tons of horsepower. It weighs like 515 pounds.

Most likely thinking a CRF450 4Stroke like 07-10

IMHO smaller bikes are much more fun in the dunes.

450's are just to big and bulky for the sand. my 2 cents

Would a KX250 be better for me?

For dunes I would also agree and say a 250 2 stroke.

Take it easy and get used to the power band before going all "freestyle batman" out on the dunes and you'll like it.

a 250 2 stroke is no "small" bike in terms of power by any means. It's also much easier to rebuild after running in the sand all of the time.

My buddy has a CRF450 and he runs it in the dunes all the time (lives 15 mins away in MN.) and he rebuilds his bike A LOT. it's become a winter project kind of deal for him.

He recently went to a 250 2 stroke and loves it from what he says.

No but dune riding is hard on the motors
It would be the same as you trying to pedal a bike on dirt and than in the sand, difference in power it takes right?

There is that, and the sand itself. No matter how well you filter everything the sand gets everywhere, including in the engine.
