Low rpm idling is bad for the engines.
800-900 rpms is fine depending on the engine, keeps the engine at operating temp and prevents cylinder wash down (unburnt fuel traveling past piston rings causing damage).
I run my truck all night to keep the A/C going all summer and heat now that the temp is dropping.

Yeah thats pretty much what I read there along with idling low creates a cooler engine which causes just more general wear and tear.

Most of the guys up in the far far north leave them running because the fuel is basically free and it gives them instant warm air and eliminates fuel gelling and hard cold starts. Idling is pretty much the worst thing you can do for a diesel.

Thats why most new trucks have high idle right off the factory floor.

All dodges hava had it since 2007.5 when the emissions got slapped on. From 07-09 all trucks had 1 level which was ~1200rpm

10-12 was similar but a touch lower in rpm.

13+ has an 1100rpm as well as a 1500 rpm you can unlock for a cost.

But yes, i do agree with you. Leaving a truck idle at 650rpm for 12 hours strait will eat the damn thing alive unless you are changing your oil every week. Great motor, just not designed to Idle for periods of time at all. I had washdown issues in my 13 just from sitting in traffic.

If you want a ford Pre 6.7L please please make sure it has headstuds installed. Not factory replacements either.

Otherwise, call me when the head pops and i'll give you a detailed write up of every wire and fluid you need to drain to remove the cab of the truck. I've gotten quite good at it.

As for dodge trucks, I would recommend a 2005-2007 (5.9L) with a 6 speed. They are expensive. So if you need to stick with an auto its not a huge deal, just try not to cook the torque converter all the time in the 5.9L trucks. Yes, the will sit at redline while they shift through the gears. No... the transmission does not like it.

You have to manually jump 2 pins on the ecu harness and enable the high idle via software on the 5.9L 6 speed trucks if you want manual control like the autos have. Mine is finicky as to when the auto high idle engages. Sometimes 25F is low enough even when its warm. Sometimes 15F is not low enough on a cold start.. i like the manual control.

To narrow your list down i'd get an early 07 and throw 06 tail lights on it. The 06's seem to have a lot of 1 off electrical parts because it's the first year of the CANbus system.

The 07's are way over my targeted price. Seems like 03 04 05 are the only trucks under 20k that aren't over 300,000km.
I was going to buy brand new but for 600$/mo + fuck that.
I can get a used low milage truck (16-20k), and a year old quad(6-8k) on my LOC for less $/mo same interest rate and payed off sooner.
