I would advise finding a good deal on an 05 or newer Honda 400ex. One of my favorite "all around" quads, and going 05+ allows you to get reverse, and the plastic design was much better looking. Those things are fking wheelie machines.

250 4 stroke would be fine then.

hardest part of your first day will probably be learning to properly kick start it

If i were to consider buying from a dealer what price range would I be looking at?

This would be just about perfect if I choose to stick with a 4 wheeler. Id love to not spend much more than $2k

prices vary all over just like cars. brand/age/condition vary widely as well in the used market.

i can't give you any hard numbers but in my area a 2010-ish 250 motorcross bike is around $1300-1700 depending on condition/mods.

they live hard lives so be careful when you are buying one because even though the outside looks nice it could have been abused hard on a motorcross track for a long time.

I meant what do they normally go for when new. I suppose I can look that up pretty easily though

considering you said you don't wanna spend much more than $2k i'm going to tell you now you won't be buying a brand new one. $7-8k range for that which i find crazy considering how quickly they can be destroyed.

I hope you're pretty handy at fixing stuff because anything you buy for $2,000 is going to break on you. I know this from experience with my 400ex. Also, if you go with a dirt bike, be prepared to lay it down quite often while you learn. Also learned this one from experience..
