He has a powerstroke. /embarassed

Using an open trailer you are about 7k max with tools and gear. Any newer half ton with a towing setup will work fine. By that I mean the bigger engine option and the right gearing. The v6 truck you posted would not cut it for me. 5.4L or go GM and go 6.0.

The only way I would go diesel in your case is if you will be crossing mountain ranges or doing really long highway trips.

If that's the case get a half ton or 3/4 ton truck with a gas motor... as much as i hate gas trucks the extra money you will pay for a comparable diesel to make 1 trip a year is not worth it.

You can find older diesels for pretty fair price.
Depends on the budget I guess, ive seen 00-06models with like 200k anywhere from 5k-15k

Its either a 7.3 or a truck someone wants to get rid of in those years. 04.5-06 duramaxes wouldnt be bad at 200k but they would be the ones on the upper end of the price range.

cheap modern diesel usually means a bad experience.

Yeah you get what you pay for for sure.

My buddy just picked up a mint 78 dodge W250 with a cummins, stacks, 39" boggers all restored and painted for 10 grand. I would sell both of my nuts for that truck.

I'd go with a 1986 7.5L F250 460 CID, but that is just what I have.
