Ok so to get back on topic...

I'm looking for something cheap, fuel efficient, reliable, and relatively inexpensive to maintain. Oh and stick shift ofc. 4000 budget. BMWs and 4th gen f body have been mentioned but are more money and harder too maintain. Honda was brought up which could work. My dad actually does own a '10 Accord. Any other options or opinions out there?

is300, audi s4, GTI

My ls1 was my 2nd car, bought it at 18 though. Never got in an accident. It was a low mileage formmula firebird cost me 9k then with 60k miles, respect your car and be aware of it's power. Treat it well and it will return the favor.

also my formula never left me stranded in the 30k miles I put on it, averaged around 25-30 mpg, only thing that went on me was transmission.

Not sure I'm understanding the Saturn jokes. Wouldn't get one either way.

Thanks a lot. There's a lot of firebirds out there. It's a great option.

4k budget is tough.

I would say look into VW TDI's
like a 01-05 TDI jetta.
diesel reliability

whatever you do, don't get stuck with some artifact from the 1900's

I actually work with someone who has a brand new turbo diesel.

What's your thought process with the '90s? I mean everyone has their own opinion.

I don't think he does his own mechanic work. Some models from the 90's can be more reliable than most newer things, Hondas for example.

The Saturn joke is they burn a lot of oil at high mileage. Seriously though they can't be beat for a beater/pizza delivery car for what they cost. I see them on Craig's list for $500-$1000 all the time. The 5 speed versions are actually quite reliable if you make sure it has a new timing belt on it, the whole body is plastic so you won't get door dings from carelessness etc. it won't rust.
