Jeremy Clarkson seemed to love them.

even though clarkson is very entertaining, I dont really take top gear as an informal show.

I don't understand. That is precisely what it is.
An informal mostly biased look at all things automotive.
If you were meaning informative, however.... I'd still disagree with you. It highlights new or exciting autos, and digs to find ones most of us have never seen, or have forgotten about.

The Fr-s was designed to do exactly what it does. The slim tires are there to give it the feel of a more powerful car without hurting so much at the pumps.
I'm not saying that improving certain aspects of the car will ruin it, but as an ideal, the car as it is was made to do a few things very well.
Such balanced engineering will likely result in some pitfalls for tuners. You improve grip... the car feels slower... improve power... the car is uncontrollable... Hypothetically speaking ofc.

Once the aftermarket for these things really takes off, I wouldn't be surprised to see entire kits geared toward keeping the thrill of the drive as true to form as possible after modification.

So I guess what I'm saying is.... Have fun with it, dude. You've got a new toy with zero stigma attached. Open chance to do w/e the hell you want with it :)

What? Since when does being able to go faster = slower feeling.
You can still break loose stickier/wider tires you just do it at a higher speed.
Our miata felt much better with more grip just because of how much faster you could push it through the corners. Now it just needs the power to pull our of corners and in straight lines....
Ive always been under the impression that the brz was made to be a car that handles extremely well. Last I checked sticking to the ground was a big part of that.

I'm guessing that is the only sentence out of the entire post you actually read. In context it makes a great deal more sense.
Read it again.

I'll wait...

Ok now that you've read it again, you see that I wasn't actually commenting on how it would drive at all.
I'm saying that with a car that is tuned from the factory to do a bunch of things well, improving a single aspect will change how it feels drastically.
The part you quoted is simply a hypothetical possibility with no relation to the specific vehicle.
I apologize if I upset you at all. It was not my intention to do so.

While I understand how physics works, there are lightweight setups that are lighter (or about the same) and give more grip. Some wide, forged rims on some low profile tires would be pretty nice.

I drive a Mustang so I suppose thats close but we also have a Miata which is pretty much the same car just not as cool looking really. If you plan on sliding your car around than better tires are pointless, but if you want a better performing car than more traction is a good thing. Personally id rather have a car that rides like its on rail then one that breaks loose all the time.
Just because the car doesnt have hardly any power doesnt mean it doesnt need traction. We swapped the tires on our miata to some slightly wider, much stickier tires and its way more fun. You can go through turns much quicker than before without them breaking loose.
I suppose it all depends on how you define "fun".
My mustang had has plenty of power to spin the tires even with my much improved (over stock) summer tires. You can still slide with better traction, you just do it at a higher speed. More fun imo.

The Frs/brz/86 has very little in common with miata other than small rwd car. The weight distribution is far better in the FRS, Limited slip diff, low centre of gravity... They handle nothing alike, I drove both the Miata and the frs in the same day (got my car at an auto-mall) and they're both great cars but they are not as similar as you'd suggest.

I don't understand the obsession with changing the tires. No point in spending ~2k on decent wheels and tires (even thats low IMO, with my preferable setup it's going to run me nearly 3k), after that you'll want suspension etc and you'll end up dumping nearly 4500 if you do it right.

For 4500 you could put an exhaust, a tune, suspension, and an intake and have tons left over.

I agree with ya for the most part there. The thing they're saying though... which is kind of like tuning 101, you need grip first. An underpowered car that can hold a corner well will be much faster than a powerful car with no grip.
All that being said; its kind of a moot point if you're using it as a daily driver. In my opinion.. This car is made for it. A fun, sporty little thing. Not saying it can't be a menace at a track day, but for me, there are other things I'd rather spend the money on.
I think changing out the tires would be like buying an xbox kinect bundle, then throwing out the kinect and buying a wii to play motion games on.
:bonk: or like throwing out your wii to buy a kinect for your xbox? idk ~

There's no logical reason for changing anything. The car is brand new. New everything. Drive the car a bit before buying the upgrades. It doesnt need anything to do what it was supposed to do.
