... thats the point where its illegal
what happens if you need to quickly accelerate? you dont have the power there at your pedal, instead your car is going VROOOMMMMM and its staying still -.-

takes <2 secs to shift into gear. I dont see a problem

illegal to coast to a stop in neutral? like against the law illegal?  blink.gif

didn't know that...

i take it easy on my old tranny and rarely do i ever downshift into 2nd

edit:

i usually don't put it in neutral. just push my clutch in..

but i understand where you're coming from

well i mean, i wouldnt do that to my sti if i didnt know how to drive. before the sti, i drove a shitty pt cruiser... practiced everything on that car before doing anything on my sti
little tricks like these on daily driving roads really help in overall skill and how one handle's their car
though i have to admit, going from a pt cruiser to an sti took a bit more adjusting than i thought. because of that, my clutch pretty worn down. im going to upgrade to a exedy stage 2 once the clutch totally goes out.

Yeah I've been told its illegal a few times.
But I HIGHLY doubt you will get pulled over for having your car in neutral.
Plus downshifting puts a little wear on the clutchy and tranny, and I'd rather get new brakes than tranny and clutch. tongue.gif

and it takes <2 seconds for your car to be plowed
i truthfully never looked at that law specifically myself, but ive heard it many times from people on other forums
it makes sense, and its not like cops can catch you. but if you ever get into that situation where you get into an accident and it can be shown that all you needed was a little gas to prevent it, then i guess youre screwed?
if anyone wants to do some research and cmere with a link, i encourage it. but as for me, im sticking to rev-matching to a stop =)

i pretty much rev match every down shift i do but it's not like i can hit the brakes and blip the gas with one foot safely enough to do it all the time...

rev matching into first just to stop?? dumb...

lol 6spd, depending on the car, isnt that much different. its just closer ratios for the most part
6th gear @3k rpm for my stock sti is 70mph i dont remember what 80mph is
for me its the following for 2k rpms (which i try to stay around for daily driving)...
2nd @2k rpm 10mph shift to 3rd at 3k
3rd @ 2k rpm 20mph shift to 4th at 3k
4th @ 2k rpm 30mph shift to 5th at 3k
5th @ 2k rpm 40mph shift to 6th at ~ 3.5k
6th @ 2k rpm ~55mph
i have to rev a bit over 3k rpms or else i can barely accel in 6th gear =/

i was saying i need a 6th gear as an overdrive gear for better gas mileage.

o and on a diff note i read today that honda is finally bringing back a type R to north america its gonna be a civic, im guessing sedan since they dont sell a hatch here atm. due here for the 2010 model year so here pretty soon since they always release the next model yrs like 6 months early

With 3.42 gears:

6th @ 2k rpm=88mph

6th gear is a .50 gear ratio. Double overdrive. 6 speed LS1's get ~15% better gas mileage than the auto's because their 4th gear is really close to our 5th gear ratio which is 0.74.

Downshifting with a synchronized transmission is not going to hurt anything. That is what it is designed to do. As long as you blip the throttle a little to rev-match it won't even effect your clutch.
