A stock B18b isn't anything special lol. Its still more of a look thing than anything.

A B18 is a huge improvement over a D16, like leaps......

edit: especially in a car that weight like 2500 lbs or less.

Its still going to be a slow car. The only reason its in there is for the look. He wants to be able to open his engine bay and be able to impress other Honda kids.

Exactly. If your not boosting it it doesn't matter.

the HP gain doesnt matter its not the power boost thats the leaps above the D16 its the design of the B18. the fact that its a DOHC engine dwarfs the D16 from square one, then add in the fact the B series line was designed from the get go to be more of a performance engine vs the generally economy minded D series line. then the huge aftermarket support for all the B series engines and their interchangeability parts wise and entire engine.

the B series line is much like the LS series of engines from GM, almost all the B series engines use the same basic block and same size bore, making many of the internals from all the diff variants of B series engines interchangeable. making it very ez to lower or raise compression ratio and displacement.

the B18 or any B series engine cept the old prelude B20's will make a much better engine than a D16 in performance terms.

It really doesn't matter if the engine is stock though which, besides an intake or other similar mods, it will probably will stay. It won't make enough of a difference for it to change anything.

stock yea its not gonna make a huge diff. ideally if u are gonna keep it stock though u are gonna want a B18 with vtec form a GSR, or a type R. pretty much the only reason to put a non vtec B18 in is if u plain to use forced induction, or just basically plain on building a VTEC or high rpm non VTEC race motor from the ground up.

stock a VTEC B18 would be a pretty big improvement over a D16. D16 makes what 130 hp at its best stock, VTEC B18's make between 170-197 depending on the model. in a car like an EG hatch that weight like 2300 lbs thats a big diff.

A B18B isn't a VTEC motor though lol. My original point is still correct, a stock B18b isn't anything special, its not going to make much difference.

I plan to turbo it though, I don't need the vtec...I thought about staying n/a because i looked at a b18c1 that i found with tranny for $500. I decided against it and I'm going to rebuild the b18b.

i didnt say a B18B was VTEC. i said if he is going to keep it stock it woul;d be smarter to put a VTEC B18 in over a non VTEC one.

srry but i still disagree, the non VTEC B18 is still a much better motor than a D16, it has more power and is a DOHC engine. i know u know about engines, u cant tell me that replacing a 130 hp SOHC engine with DOHC engine with like 150-160 hp is not going to make a diff. it wont be a huge diff but u will notice. especially if u swap in a close ratio tranny with it.

if u are gonna go forced induction the B18b is your best starting platform for a decent price.

Stock for stock its not going to change much. Unless your boosting it or doing some major n/a modification its not worth it to upgrade. It will still be a slow car.
