or you could adapt/splice old harnesses, but standalone allows much more potential.
And in these type swaps I always feel it is easier to start from scratch than to try to adapt two things that weren't supposed to go together in the first place. But that's just me.
i never even thought about a stand alone engine management system. your talking about the pcm right? i could get a lq4 with the wiring harness and pcm for around 900 total. i know i would need alot of the ls1 parts like the engine mounts, k members,steering rack ect. could you link me a stand alone unti so i know what to look for? also im pretty sure i would need the flexplate off a newer trans also. doesnt sound to bad over all for a lq4 drop in with a few new parts to make 400 hp with lots of room to grow
a quick search brings up units that are like 2500$, i could send the harness of and get it rewired for plug and play for 800. but then i would still have to find a lt1 tuner which is hard to find these days lol
