okay this is coming from someone who has built 2 of my own turbo hondas, and i have buddies with them as well. you can say honda has been doing with technology forever, and you're correct when it comes to making great dd's with an economical mind set. now they can be very fun yes, but you also can only do so much with them. the b18 i just sold was around 350 whp. it hopped all the way through 3rd if i punched it, which sucks. they can be fun, but why settle for that when i can have as much fun in a rwd v8 pushing that much power 100% stock?
straight line racing is fun, along with turns too. its not like you can only have one or the other. but on the other hand... this is the year 2009 and American vechiles can turn just as well as your civic. its not like we are far behind on technology and handling just blows through our head. so to say American vechiles cant hang is obsurb.
and i dont care what monster drives. i own a stock f-150, does this put a burden on my knowledge? i dont think so.
some ppl just prefer one thing to another. honda does have technologically advanced engines not just for DDing. i believe they still hold the record for the highest specific displacement 4 banger with the S2000 engine. not to mention all of their type R variant engines achieve greater than 100hp per liter N/A. there are not to many companies that put engines in that high of tune in production cars.
even the B18 u have or had almost hits 100hp per liter stock and its not even a high performance engine more in the mid range of the honda engine line. yes alot of the technology honda has developed and uses for high performance engines can be adapted to gain more fuel mileage in more DD like engines.
just think if american companies made V8's with 100 hp per liter, the new ZO6 would have 700+ hp, no need for a supercharger. but obviously that will cut reliability down substantially if u would take a traditional american V8 or even an LSX engine and tune it in the same manor. honda manages to make engines like the type R models in this same state of tune and still maintain good reliability and drivability..
american cars are also generally heavier than say his civic, weight plays a huge role in handling on a race track.
