Can buy plenty in Houston but the chances of getting shot or robbed are much higher.

GA/SC pretty much anywhere rural. I can have a 2000sq ft 4 bed 2 bath built for under $125k with stainless appliances and decent appointments. An acre of land on road frontage 5-6 miles from town is about $10-$12k.


I'm going to have around 140k in the house i'm building now. I'm building it myself so it's not apples to apples. 4 bed 3 bath, cathedral ceiling in the living area, tray ceiling in the dining room, 9' ceilings throughout, full basement with a full size 2 car garage and 20x50 shop. Total living area is 2500sq ft. Total heated footage is 4000sq ft. On 5 acres of land with a named creek flowing through it, 3 miles from the interstate, 5 miles from Augusta Ga, and 2 miles from walmart and the typical strip mall stuff/restaurants.


Why do you think so many yankees like yourself retire, sell their average middle class home, and buy a horse farm down here? If their house is paid for they could buy 4 of them down here for the same cost.
