Chuckling about the red skeleton key. Still, that's pretty awesome. Nobody ever told me powder coating was quite that simple, and I never bothered to find out..

Yeah, me neither. Until I wanted something powder coated and saw the prices.....Figured it was worth investigating. Plus another useful skill. Win Win.

I began today by powder coating a couple of my intercooler piping pieces. The color is called 'wrinkle' black. It's very cool, in my opinion. The best example I could think of to describe the texture is: a glass emery board (coarse nail file)

It's a lovely finish.

More in next post.

And I only ordered a very small amount of powder, in case this was a crazy failure, but now that I know it's possible, I have to order more to complete the pipes.

Comparison

Oh and my throttle linkage arrived. That's all in place and done now too.

thanks guys!

And yeah, I certainly dislike the color even more.....but the blue now makes me completely realize how damn sexy it is going to look with black couplers down the line.

Mechanical Things left to do:

-Purchase and install oil cooler
-Drill/Tap thermostat housing for 3/8 npt (2x)
-Weld BOV flange and IAT bung
-Powder coat the remaining piping
-Purchase and install Greddy RZ bov

Then Megasquirt begins...

LOTS of stuff left to do. Well...lots of time, I guess...

This is that awful stage in the project where no real big cosmetic changes happen, so it feels like minimal progress is being accomplished. But actually lots of little details are being finished up.

She's getting closer....I know this, because I am already beginning to source out fluids. That's a good sign.

This thread makes me wish I bought the Z I was looking at instead of my Nova, but I'm still glad I got it.

My build thread should be coming this summer, hopefully.

Yeah, the Nova is a fun car. I wouldn't be too upset with the decision either. and thanks!

Okay, so today I can cross one of the things off my list.

-Tapped thermostat housing to accept all my various sensors.

Top left is Autometer coolant temp gauge sensor.
Bottom Left (now tapped 3/8NPT) is for GM Coolant temp sensor.
Top right is plugged, obviously.
Bottom right is also tapped 3/8NPT for the sender on my cooling fan. (set to kick on at 180 degrees and kick off at 170)

Now I need the gaskets, and a fresh 160 degree thermostat, then I can bolt that in place for good.

Another thing down.

Ordering oil cooler tomorrow or the next day.

I was looking at powder coating videos on the youtubes, and I came across one I think you may find interesting. Perhaps you'll get a bit of inspiration from it :)

Yeah, wrinkle black was definitely the right choice.
