I thought they rev'd to 6500 lol
But compare 2.4L to 5.7L, the KA should rev just alittle higher to start to make up for it
They redline at 6200. They don't rev higher than that because power flatlines at ~5500 and starts to trail off after 6100. They don't need to rev higher than that. With an aftermarket cam and intake that makes power higher in the RPM range they will make power up to 6800-7000. With a single plane intake and a BIG cam they will make power past 7200. With a giant solid roller cam they will make power to 9,000+rpm.
The 98-99 stock bottom ends can rev to ~6500 safely. The 00+ stock bottom ends can safely run to 6800rpm. The rod bolts are the weak point and the 00+ got stronger ones. You can rev a stock bottom end with ARP/Cartek rod bolts to 7200rpm+. Texas speed's record holding stock bottom end NA camaro runs 9's. It has ARP rod bolts and they shift at 7200rpm and go through the traps at 7500 with a 4.88 rear gear and a 30" tire.
So basically I'm saying they can rev a lot higher they just don't need to because they don't make power up there. The LS7 redlines at 7K but it has been endurance tested at 8500RPM. It just doesn't need to rev higher than 7 to make the power they wanted it to make. All of these RPMS are pretty damn impressive for a hydraulic roller cam.
