If you want to buy something in the compact range, buy the Cruze, I think the 1.8l (IIRC) is more reliable, but I had a 1.4 turbo and it was a great car, of course, it was a lease and got turned in at 32k miles so no idea past that
Now I drive a 2009 Malibu LT2 with the eco 4cyl, it certainly doesn't have a lot of power but its got all the amenities of a nice daily, leather heated seats, sunroof, traction control, remote start, Sirius radio, etc...rides really nice and comfortable
