I challenge anyone to come to my house and break one of my Sunex sockets without using a torch or a 5 ft cheater bar. I have a complete master socket set from them that I paid maybe $500 for? It's all forged chromoly.

At a certain point you are just paying for the name. I love my snap on ratchets. That is engineering and QC worth paying money for.

Screw drivers, sockets, pry bars, wrenches? Nope. Mid grade stuff that you don't have to pay the middle man on is perfectly fine. I've had a couple of my 1/2" Sunex sockets adapted onto a 3/4" Impact working on my tractor and I've never had a problem with them.

Paying for the name, and the ease of replacement. I've never had to replace a Sunex product, but Snap-On is literally no questions asked ever, just "here's your new tool"

The ratchets are 100% worth paying for. That many teeth? Smooth as butter.

Only half of your screwdrivers are pry bars, but yes.

I'm never going to need to replace enough of these sockets to recover the extra cost of the snap on versions.

This set

Retails for $2905.

1/4"-7/8" 3/8 drive shallow and deep well 6 and 12 point
2 ratchets
Some allen sockets
some extensions
a screwdriver

Those are chrome sockets so they will still break if abused even though they are snap on. The ease of the replacement thing is a misnomer as well. Craftsman, Kobalt, and harbor freight are all no questions asked in store returns. Snap On you have to wait on the driver to get back to you which often takes a week or more.

Forged CR-MO, heat treated steel, $67.99 and free shipping on Amazon

Don't get me wrong, I love their ratchets and some of their unique doo-hickey stuff. I'm 100% a buy it once and have it forever kind of guy. That is to a point though. At what point do you realize you are being raped for what is still a chrome socket? I'd say anything that is chrome and costs more than Kobalt is a rip off.

It was recommended to me years ago by a performance shop mechanic. He was selling his tool truck brand stuff used and pocketing cash after replacing them with Sunex. He said he'd never pay the tool truck another dime. I bought a socket set and tried it out. I haven't bought anything else since. Since they are impact sockets they have a bit thicker wall than most chrome sockets. If I ever run into a situation where I need a thin wall socket I pull out a harbor freight cheapy from my road tool kit.

well as far as impacts go Grey Pneumatic makes some rly nice sockets for the money man, ive got 12 point ones that are great

sunex is also good but i feel like price and quality wise gearwrench is better

but yes sockets WILL break but i wouldn't suggest using impacts on a ratchet it will strip a LOT eaiser than a chrome since a impact is a lot softer metal than a chrome one

I don't work on heavy equipment other than my tractor. I've never had a problem with any of these slipping or stripping on a ratchet. I use a CV socket for breaker bar use though. Most of my stuff is under 90lb/ft.
