For collective value? Sure, I would take an NSX any day of the week over a corvette, unless it was a 68 l-88 or something. If you're picking the NSX over a Corvette of equal value for superior performance, you'll be highly disappointed.

You mean slowly disappointed

Bahama

No seriously, they are slow as balls.

Nope. That's a whole bunch of nopes.

An aluminum 5.3L(323ci) LS block and a 440ci ls3 stroker weigh the same thing. The only thing you are guaranteed to add with displacement is cubic dollars.

B16 and an ls1 weigh the same.

Why are we talking about these small blocks that boosted 6 inlines can easily compete with? Let alone the 3 to 4 liter supercar 10-12 cyl motors will put to shame.

That saying may have made sense back in the muscle car days, but technology definitely has caught up. Cubic inches only go so far now, that's why big blocks are only really made for towing or dodge based burnout machines that put up high hp numbers but get beat by vettes with smaller motors.

how many people do you personally know that drive a supercar?

If you spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a supercar, thats one thing.. But if your budget is 20k, a 4 cylinder isn't your best bet BECAUSE you will get more power out of a v8 than a 4 cyl.

tl;dr

No replacement for displacement, unless you have millions of dollars to throw at a high compression 10cyl

Uh... yeah my friend Tyler has a DeLorean, so obv I know someone with a supercar...

But really, my post had absolutely nothing to do with budget. It was the simple fact that old saying goes about as far as a mopar transmission these days. Technology has caught up and having the bigger motor doesn't mean much anymore.

It does though

power=(force*displacement)/time

Force=induction
Literally lower any of those variables other than time, and the power lessens. We are starting to get to where we can build higher grade components, which allow for more forced induction BUT the fact still remains that the tried and true and cheaper alternative is displacement.

You can run a b16 to the fucking wall, but its going to cost you a lot of money. To do the same with a 302 would cost a fraction of what it would cost.

e: and yeah, it is a lot more complicated than that, a shit load of variables, but I just wanted to express the debate in another form.

Still not the point, only reason we are even bringing up budget is because we are poor minded working class folks.

If you negate budget, than I'm going to go buy an f18 super hornet.

I used an example of adding displacement without adding weight.

Build your ridiculous small displacement super engine. Boost it. No one cares. We do the same shit with bigger engines and we make... more power. A 600+inch big block with 50lbs of boost makes 3500+hp.

It's a simple concept. Using the same materials building the engine to the same state a larger displacement engine will make more power. There is no arguing that. More air + more fuel=more power.

Actually there is, it's called technology.

Yes you can do the same thing with big motor blah blah... but it's just a heavier version of the same idea that needs the extra power to keep up.

But civics are still fwd eco boxes... there is a damn good reason why the Toyota and Nissans are at the top of the import scene. They are simply better designed for performance than hondas.

Don forget Subaru boiiiiii

Civics are a joke. I'm a scooby person myself but forreal. I cannot believe how many trailer trash try to roll up on me with their little 05 civic with a massive fart can and a "wing " to keep that bad boy on the ground.
