Let's think about it...

4-stroke engines:

- oil and filter change every 4-5 hours (run)
- air filter every ride (clean or swap)
- a engine overspeed (aka you downshift it too soon) and your valves are bended or worst they unlock and destroy top end.
- a timing failure and your top end is destroyed.
- a timing chain failure and you can destroy bottom end.
- a oil line failure and you seize the engine and replace cylinder/piston/ring only if lucky.

2-stroke:

- locator pin unlock and you destroy cylinder/piston/ring? You have a small 20$ tool list? You buy parts for 125$ and do the lego job yourself.
- once per years you clean carb/intake valve/exhaust valve yourself for 10$.
- You change air filter once/ride (or you clean it)

I change my oil and filter every 15 hours no need to change every 4-5 hours....
I clean my filter like once a month if that... and I ride a lot.

Just curious, what's your bike ? do you race it a little ? Bigger engines these days are made out of cardboard so small dust passing thru filter can rail almost everything lel.

I have a 2013 ktm 350 with roughly 260 hours, valves and compression checked recently and its all fantastic. It saw about 8 races. New bike is a 16 ktm 350 sxf that has about 60 hours on it and raced hard. My 09 2 stroke I was doing the air filter almost every ride, but the new airbox on the ktm is sealed very well so you do not need to clean the filter that often. I used to do the oil every 4 hours, but its just a waste of money, the oil still looked brand new.
