If you are only forking 15k/250 insurance on a v8, don't expect much besides a beat up r/t or g8. You could probably buy a 1998-2005 high mileage v8 but you don't sound like someone who would be able to do handiwork. With 15k ( are we talking taxes in or not? bc it makes a difference ) , your best bet would be a mean v6.

Don't be that guy who doesn't know much about handiwork and expect to buy a Ferrari with 15k. When I had 18k, I was looking for something with guts as well but I realized that buying something older than 10 years would require a decent knowledge of car mechanics. I purchased a mediocre car that didn't have a shit load of clicks with decent reliability. It was between Nissan 370z, audi s4 (v8 before it became v6) and challenger r/t. Make sure you know what kind of long term and short term costs are associated with the vehicle before purchase as well!
