I work in a chemical plant. Our control room is blast proof. Think of a movie with a nuclear reactor meltdown scenario. It looks sort of like this

You actually have a better chance of surviving an extremely high pressure wave in the open than inside. Our control room is rated to 16psi. Anything higher than that and it's a big coffin.

i assume they also have air filtration and stuff, right?

cause the blast wave and fires are just icing on the deadly chemical cake if it were to happen most likely.

4500psi breathing air bottles are daisy chained and will maintain the positive pressure atmosphere inside the building in the event of a power outage. There is enough to last 2 days if the occupants stay calm.

Worst case scenario is a large cyclohexane vapor cloud explosion. Google Flixborough explosion. It was 1/5th the size and owned by the same company i work for.

hope those safety precautions are never put to the test cause this seems like hell to go through.
