Everytime I almost decide on a muffler, someone else suggests something else.

I wan't something fairly quite on the highway.

Yuuuuup, I went with Mbrp this time around. I love it, loud as fuck in town, really really deep sound but damn near silent in the cab on the highway.

I had MBRP on my white 3/4ton hemi.

Was a really good setup. I liked it a lot until I pulled my 12k bumper pull camper 1400 miles to Houston. Worst trip of my life.... Damn truck screamed wide open over every hill lol...

I would recommend the MBRP though. It's fairly priced and sounds good.

18" magnaflows

Best sounding mufflers by far, its what I had on my ranger. Stays quiet when not on a load, but the second you stomp it, it produces a very nice tone.

MagnaFlows have the best tones, most are calm at idle and cruising while having a beautiful roar under throttle.

Just youtube them all and make your decision based on what you like most.
Then look them up for prices.
Magnaflows are probably the most expensive and their just ok.

just ok in what way? Because they are stainless? And they are available in many different sizes/tones from race car loud to almost stock?

Borla makes more expensive mufflers than magnaflow but they have a unique tone that is very deep. Both Borla and Magnaflow are tame at idle, aggressive at WOT (for a truck), and reserved on the highway. Different sizes are going to give you different volume levels in different places but the overall tone is similar. Those 18" magnaflows he posted are really common on 5.3's because they work. Generally speaking the larger the muffler the quieter it will be.

Thanks
Now I'm thinking I don't even wanna do a muffler alone.

I was thinking of having long tube headers and 3" true duals out the back with no cats and no mufflers, or dual magnaflows. Then taking it to PCMofNC and having it tuned.
My largest concern is the CEL coming on, but won't a tune from them remove that issue?
Also they can dyno before and after. :D

Obviously I don't know a lot about this stuff.

The tune would take care of the light. You won't gain much power from exhaust work after the factory exhaust manifolds. You will see a gain from headers. I don't see how you can be contemplating long tubes with straight pipes and dual magnaflows at the same time. Those options are worlds apart. I'm telling you ahead of time you will get tired of it being obnoxiously loud without a good tone.

This is a 5.3L pickup with 285-305hp. Don't over think it. Find the magnaflow or w/e muffler you like and get it installed by a good exhaust shop. The gains from headers and custom duals aren't really worth it on a truck unless you just want to blow money for the sake of blowing money.

I just wanted it for the sound. Like you said it's a truck so even if I gained 40 (lol) it would still be slow.
I don't know much about this stuff but liked the idea so threw it out there cause I value your opinion.
I'll just throw a magnaflow on there and keep the stock single pipe I guess..will still have a nice rumble and is cheap with no worries.
Then I can save my money to put towards a new silverado like you just bought. :D
