I can say one thing I found with vw electrical gremlins is 90% of them are owner inflicted. Has he done and system work or anything? If not it could have been caused by the weather conditions in his area, moisture and vws don't get along at all lol

It's 100% stock and he probably can't change his own tire. The car has been in SC since new. It is probably a lemon but I've read some rather horrible things about the made in mexico VW models.
