I found online a good place that has the part for almost half the price the shop wanted:

http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/2000/toyota/camry/exhaust/catalytic_converter.html

My car is a 2000 Toyota Camry 4 cylinder 2.2L not sure what GAS or CNG mean in regards to the car, but the website says that the cat will fit into those engines.

I just am trying to be extra cautious in order to ensure that I order the right part.

in all honesty i would just go with the shop that quoted you 460+80 for it and let them get the part and install it. that way you know you have the correct part for it and i paid around 400 for probably the same thing on my mazda but im in kentucky so my shit runs cheaper anyway.

just guessing that its a 4 cylinder because you didnt specify but i found a cat for it at oreilly for 109 dollars (u.s.)

where are you located because if you are in/around a big city it may be higher but no theres not 600 dollars worth of labor there.

i have a 99 mazda protege and mine is some part of the exhaust manifold (it was a split year between a regular cat and this shitty expensive one i have) and it was almost 400 dollars for the cat alone. our local exhaust shop charged maybe 50 dollars or so for labor to cut the old one off and install the new one.

oh sorry didnt see phoenix at the bottom

For 109 it's probably a universal one that may or may not fit. When I got my cat at oreilys it was 500.

So I finally got it down to know that the p0420 code is being set off by the catalytic converter. (went to a shop that had a special code reader and they said o2 sensors were fine etc etc)

However, the guy at the shop told me that the car I have is a "california" model? He said that California has a different part/build for the catalytic converter or something along those lines. And that every other state except california has the same build.

He said that since the part is the California model or w.e the part itself is $460 with $80 of labor. The labor is fine to me. I literally just got home so i haven't had time to research the part/california thing but I'm just wondering if anyone has any insight on what exactly happened to make California want to be different and if $460 sounds right for the cat.

He said that if it weren't the California part it would only be $180 for everything including installation.

Thanks again guys

I'll be honest. I really didn't feel like reading all 3 pages.

Lmfao.. Ridiculous... For a dime over 300 I would buy a mig welder, measure the pipe, buy the right size GENERIC AFTERMARKET cat (which will still do the same job as OE) and learn to weld, its not hard.

I can go to any mcparts store and buy a cat in whatever size pipe for under $100. You can too I'm sure. Take that in and tell them to weld it in for you.

I had to buy a bung for my wideband, got it from a muffler shop in town. While I was there the guy quoted me 180 for a whole downpipe back exhaust, with custom made in house bends. He said 230 or 240 if I wanted it done in stainless.... I haven't had a "mechanic" work on any of my vehicles in over 10 years tho...i can do it cheaper. And usually better.

Figured out that the type of car I have has two different cats. I need the one that's connected to the manifold. That's why it's more spendy.
