jawbone is one of my favorite places to go

I've never ridden desert. I grew up in South Carolina sugar sand though so I'd probably enjoy it. When I get on hard pack clay I'm like wtf is this shit the front brake actually works.

I have heard of Jawbone canyon but is still pretty far away from us

I'm going to have to make a trip out west one day and ride some dunes, do some rock crawling, and get in that Late Model. I get another week of vacation after this year...

I'l probably pick up the bike since he's giving me a 78 ford f150 with a 302 with it ( why not?) Gonna get the bike cheked, how much compression should it have? What shouldI look for

California is the offroad mecca. If you live deep in the city it kind of sucks but within a couple hours drive you have beach, rock, dirt, sand dunes, mud, etc. etc.

Holiday weekends at Glamis, Dumont, etc are like giant party's mixed in with extreme offroading ;P

If you plan a trip enough in advance you could match it up with a holiday weekend.. it would be way worth it.

friday go to pismo, ride the dunes, satuday 20 minutes away for santa maria speed way and then go wheelin sunday at hollister hills

These things have auto decompression so a compression test is not very reliable. A leak down test is a much better way to go about it. Generally speaking though if it starts in 3 or 4 good smooth kicks when it is cold it's ok.

The 450 thumper will be to much for a first timer if u like to do some aggressive riding not to mention the arm pump it will give you. Get the 250 thumper. Raced motocross for 12years.

This for sure.... if it has valve issues etc.. you will know most of the time when you are kicking that bad boy for days trying to get it started.
