Wow you are a dick what is wrong with fixing a hole if it is tiny with some JB weld, or metal weld, Since guess what exhaust is made of? metal! tada. Notice I asked if the hole was big, I would never fix a huge hole with jb weld but if the hole is only like 1/4" to 1/2" why would someone spend 200+ fixing it when that is not even remotely necessary, you also wouldn't even be able to tell the difference at all if this was done, not like it affects the performance of a car at all.
Also considering most cars that are going to run in to this issue are older, he also said it could be temporary which my suggestion was perfect for what he needed your suggestion is not. Replacing the exhaust is a permanent solution not temporary
Well...Rust...is a big issue there. Depending on where the leak is, it could also affect the operation of the vehicle (like if the leak is before an O2 sensor, or catalytic converter).
That aside, a temporary fix is just that. Temporary. You're either going to have to deal with it once and for all, or repeat the process.
It shouldn't cost anywhere near 200$ to replace a single piece of exhaust pipe.
Most of the shops in my area (first hand experience) charge around 140$ to replace it all from the cat back (oem replacement, not performance).
Thats with a new muffler/resonator as well, not just the pipes.
Its always good to instill the "do it right, do it once" mentality when people ask for advice on vehicle repair. Keeps costly oversights to a minimum.
