here is a video i just uploaded, hope this is clear enough to exactly what it sounds like and where it's coming from

http://youtu.be/rfVShQgHGvI

i was pulling down on the step bar by the way, and those washers are chewed up on both sides, but the noise is only coming from the FRONT driver side. so that makes me think it cant be that

edit: sorry for the shaky camera, I was pulling on the truck while holding the camera

U got a purdy voice

You can do the ball joints yourself in a day if you want to replace them and Im sure someone makes a heavier duty aftermarket version.

That being said, before you through more parts at it you should inspect all of your steering and suspension linkages in the front. You can inspect all of the joints for play fairly easily.

The sway bar should have a couple of bushings it passes through to hold it in place, is the noise coming from them? If you you could probably just great them/the sway bar.

Lower ball joints need pressed in, uppers you need to buy the complete control arm.
If hes doing tie rod end ball joints, chances are hes going to mess up his front end alignment, unless hes really good at counting threads(doesn't always work anyway).

Sounds like whatever shop you took it to were idiots if they "think its balljoints" without specifying which balljoints.

Pressing in ball joints and getting an alignment arent hard things to do though

I dont have anything to hold my truck up, and i dont feel confident leaving it on the crappy lift that came with the truck. my truck seems to be making more noise since i changed the sway bar link (on the driver's side). i couldnt get the bottom nut off the passenger side link (was stripping it) so I just left the old one. also i think my sway bar is slightly bent because it is NOT even on both links (although only a slight maybe half-3/4 inch difference, but it's enough so i cant tighten it all the way on the drivers side). in fact while i was trying to tighten the one that i changed, i couldnt tighten it down all the way because i was literally just smushing the top bushing/washer (which is probably why it's making more noise now).

I'm so fucking pissed right now, this truck is turning into a lemon. i cant stand the noise and cant afford to fix the problem

I dont have a press and I didnt mine pretty easily.
Most auto parts places rent them out for pretty much free.

How many miles are on the truck? To say a 9 year old is suddenly turning into a lemon is a bit unfair. Maintenance goes along with owning a car especially when it gets up in miles.
Also, I bought some jack stands from Summit Racing for like 30 bucks and they are really nice. They go up pretty high which helps a lot for my lifted jeep and they are rated for a good bit of weight.
IMO if you dont want to spend lots of money on vehicles over the years, investing in some tools is the best route. You can fix many things on your own and its quite easy with the amount of information on the internet these days.

Also, if it makes you feel any better, I just replaced 4 ball joints, tie rod and both ends, drag link, and track bar on my Jeep. Almost $1k for it all just in parts
