I would get a gasser if your not towing too much. Diesel parts and maintenance is pricy!! I had a dodge half ton. they are not the best on fuel , but good trucks for a decent price. I would look at the gm's.

The people that i know that bought them regret it dearly. Same or worse fuel economy than a gm v8 truck with more parts to break.

hes clueless lol

Maybe but to add I'm in Ohio and not far from where the Duramax engine is being built in Moraine, a suburb of Dayton. I've heard questionable reliability from multiple people.

I suppose its like anything used = depends how it was treated by the previous owner.

my buddies 2013 eco is about 15l per 100km so around 18mpg not hand calculated. They don't look like they would be easy to work either.

I haven't heard of any dmax problems due to the aluminum head. People were skeptical when it came out. GM has been using aluminum heads on iron blocks for years. Once they figured out the coolant and head gasket it's nothing but a bonus.

aluminum heads is not a "new" thing though. the only problems with duramax's is the damn wheel bearings. also my uncle has a 6.0, cant get the damn thing to run when cranking, but it roll starts. They think now its because the "Trailer Brake Controller" WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH THE TRUCK STARTING ON LEVEL GROUND!?!?! but when its running, OOoohhh Shes a beaut! 300k miles and you wouldnt know it!! and the motor just got rebuilt. Also the diesel parts do cost more, BUUUTTT theyre Hella reliable, and last a long time! if i went ford, 7.3, chevy any year, dodge Any year that the trannys didnt suck..

6.4 is worse.  A 6.0 is fine once you delete it.  The 6.4 will always be a turd.  They cut international out on the new 6.7. So far i have only heard good things but he isn't getting one for 30k. Not unless its a 2wd work truck model thats 1 year old.

I would agree when speaking of the drivetrain but my 06 has had too many little bs problems for me to recommend one to someone that isn't prepared to work on it themselves.

Most credit unions will loan on something like a diesel truck that holds value.  Mine was 6 years old and i got 3%/48 mos on it.

My bank will finance on any year truck, however I'm not too fond of the idea of buying something 4+ years old with limited knowledge of the repairing process, which would leave me to bringing it into the shop for anything more than basic maintenance. I also dont want to put myself into something that is halfway through its life to cut a few corners and save some money if I cannot replace what needs to be replaced myself. Shit breaks and I know that, Im trying to prevent myself from uneeded repairs.

As for the 8 speed Rams, I've looked into those, however in my pricerange, I can only find those in the V6 model (Ram, Challenger, Charger, etc)

And last but not least, the only reason I brought up the ecoboost is because a buddy of mine has the F150 Eco and says he loves the power it has on a 1/4 ton. He traded in his old F150 and doesnt regret it a bit, however his is a pavement queen and the biggest load the truck stresses is stoplight to stoplight.
