A nitrous backfire can be caused by a lean condition like he said, but it can also be a rich condition, fuel puddling in the intake, pulling too much timing to quickly, bogging the engine, or spraying to much/early.
Fuel puddling results in lean condition since the cylinders fill with nitrous. Same with spraying too much/early. It could have been too rich I suppose but that's almost never what happens with a 100 shot. Either way, it is/was a tuning issue and had zero to do with the welds. People run nitrous through plastic intakes. I'd much rather my intake came apart at the seam then replace valves and or pistons.
