The auto transmission in the BRZ/FRS has been rated pretty highly. It also gets better MPG than the manual.

I'm convinced to drive automatic, but my bro in law has literally said that I shouldn't buy a automatic if I wanted to drive one of these :/

If you want to drive auto, then drive it. There are many people who will tell you not to because there is an unwritten elitist code saying that if you buy a sports car, it has to be manual. In reality, it's just an empty threat to avoid being "uncool."

With that said, yes there are benefits to driving a manual sports car but it won't be an issue driving an automatic
