Essentially yes, but when you buy a car with an already poor resale value right before a refresh with 5 years of models available you're just adding fuel to the fire.

can one argue that you should get a better deal on it just because new models are coming out?

of course. depending on when that time is (that the new models roll out)

Also keep in mind you're not flipping cars here..you are buying a vehicle for your own personal use and enjoyment.

Its not interesting its common sense. There's no shot of getting a good enough deal to cover anywhere close to what you're going to lose because of the circumstances.

Buy a lightly used car, my girlfriend bought a new car 3-4 years ago put around 40000 km on it in the 4 years re-sale value bought new 20k, could squeeze 6-7k out of it, no scratches just the sad part about buying brand new.

Friend bought a new Audi A6 2 years ago only 28000KM on it, probably dropped 10-15K already.

Be smart.
